Switch rules: an explicit shedding game with wild aces

An explicit study agreement for aces, eights, twos and jacks. Distinguish Switch from casino blackjack.

Here Switch means a shedding game with ordinary playing cards. Since the name covers different action rules, our exercises use an explicitly agreed study round. It is not a playable GameFinder edition or a prescription for every Switch table.

In this guide

Prepare our study round

We agree on three or four players, a 52-card deck without jokers and seven-card hands. For study, the discard starts with an ordinary nine. With no pending action, match suit or rank, one card per turn. An ace independently chooses the next suit.

Diamonds ace with hearts declared: hearts 6 or a new wild ace fit; diamonds king does not.

Position as text

Top: diamonds ace. Declared: hearts. Hand from left: diamonds king, hearts 6, spades ace. Legal: 2, 3.

Actions in this study agreement

A two creates a two-card penalty answered only by another two, adding two each time. An eight skips the next player. A black jack creates five penalty cards; another black jack adds five. A red jack removes exactly five from this jack penalty. Two and jack chains stay separate.

A wild ace cannot simply erase a pending penalty. Without an allowed answer, draw the full penalty and end your turn. A red jack against a ten-card jack penalty makes you draw the remaining five immediately, ending that chain here. Other ranks have no extra effect in our simplified round.

Ordinary drawing and a final ace

With no legal play, draw exactly one and end the turn; the drawn card is not played immediately here. Discards except the top card can renew an exhausted stock. Our agreed one-card announcement is “Last card”; a missed call caught before the next turn costs two cards.

An ordinary final card ends the round. A final ace instead requires a replacement card and does not end our study round while a card can be drawn. Agree on this before play. Do not automatically apply it to a Mau-Mau jack or UNO Wild.

A simplified agreement is still an agreement

Our exercises omit multi-card plays, seven flushes and hand swaps. Expanded variants appear in the comparison guide. This boundary helps separate a pending penalty, the active declared suit and the next player.
