1 · Step or jump?

Coral is at A; B is adjacent and empty. No piece lies between them. Is A → B legal, and what kind of move is it?

One step: A → B reaches the adjacent empty point.
One step: A → B reaches the adjacent empty point.
Position as text

Reduced teaching position; other pieces are omitted. Coral I9. A = I9; B = I8. One step: A → B reaches the adjacent empty point.

Answer and explanation

Yes: one step. It needs no supporting piece. You cannot add a jump afterwards in the same turn.

2 · How many turns does the chain take?

The coral piece travels A → B → C → D. All shown supports are occupied and every landing is empty. How many turns are needed, and which pieces disappear?

Three jumps in one move: A → B → C → D. All jumped pieces remain.
Three jumps in one move: A → B → C → D. All jumped pieces remain.
Position as text

Reduced teaching position; other pieces are omitted. Coral E9; Green F9; Blue H8; Coral I6. A = E9; B = G9; C = I7; D = I5. Three jumps in one move: A → B → C → D. All jumped pieces remain.

Show hint

Distinguish an individual jump from a complete turn.

Answer and explanation

One turn containing three jumps. No jumped piece disappears. You may stop at B or C; reaching D is optional.

3 · May the first jump go backwards?

Coral is heading up but first jumps A → B downwards. Is A → B → C → D legal?

Useful detour: A → B initially goes backwards; the chain continues through C to D farther up.
Useful detour: A → B initially goes backwards; the chain continues through C to D farther up.

Reduced teaching position; other pieces are omitted. Coral I9; Green I10; Blue J10; Green K8. A = I9; B = I11; C = K9; D = K7. Useful detour: A → B initially goes backwards; the chain continues through C to D farther up.

Answer and explanation

Yes. Backward jumps are allowed and each segment has a support and empty landing. D ends two rows above A. The direct A → D route has no support.

4 · Leave the target again?

The coral piece starts its turn at A inside its target camp. X is immediately outside. May it move A → X?

Target lock: coral at A cannot leave its target camp for X. The dashed connection is forbidden.
Target lock: coral at A cannot leave its target camp for X. The dashed connection is forbidden.
Position as text

Reduced teaching position; other pieces are omitted. Coral J4. A = J4; X = J5. Target lock: coral at A cannot leave its target camp for X. The dashed connection is forbidden.

Answer and explanation

No. In our edition, a piece starting in the target stays within it during that turn. It may still move to empty points within the camp.

5 · The final step

Nine coral pieces occupy the target; only B is empty. The tenth is at A. Does A → B win?

Finishing: nine coral pieces are in the target camp. A → B brings in the tenth.
Finishing: nine coral pieces are in the target camp. A → B brings in the tenth.
Position as text

Reduced teaching position; other pieces are omitted. Coral K4; Coral L4; Coral M4; Coral K3; Coral L3; Coral M3; Coral L2; Coral M2; Coral M1; Coral J5. A = J5; B = J4. Finishing: nine coral pieces are in the target camp. A → B brings in the tenth.

Answer and explanation

Yes. The checked step fills the tenth target point with coral and satisfies the win condition. Earlier route lengths and the opponent’s partial arrivals do not affect that condition.
