In this guide

Traditional square Halma

Schmidt’s square Halma rules specify two players with 19 pieces each or four with 13 each, including diagonal movement. This differs from our compact live boards.

Star Halma and Chinese Checkers

The star uses a triangular lattice with six directions and opposite destinations. Noris documents one version for two or three players with 15 pieces each. Our local edition separately offers two to six seats and three sizes. “Chinese Checkers” names the star family; it does not guarantee identical house rules.

Local human seats share one device and can mix with computer seats. Live play connects two humans on separate devices. Live boards are square and have eight directions. Their 8/10/12 options are side lengths, while local stars are offered as 121/181/253 points. Similar internal size numbers do not imply identical boards.

Live Halma: an 8×8 square board with two opposite ten-piece camps. Cells are true squares.

Long jumps, teams and blocking agreements

Private groups may agree on longer jumps, teams or different treatment of occupied destinations. These are separate agreements. Our local edition jumps only over an adjacent piece to the immediately following empty point and evaluates colours individually. There is no selectable long-jump or team mode. Another publisher’s rules do not automatically replace our documented home-blockade check.
