Rope Untangle

Watch a solution

Watch how plugs are lifted and moved. Your own puzzle is restored afterwards.

Untangle every rope

Ropes keep their over-and-under order. A rope covered by another cannot be lifted; free the rope above it first. Move a free plug into an empty socket without crossing any higher rope. Finish when no ropes cross or touch. Rejected moves do not count.

Move the plugs

Drag an uncovered plug along a clear route, or select it and tap an empty socket. Two taps check the direct route; dragging lets you choose a detour. The whole moving cord and its plugs must clear higher ropes. Numbers identify matching ends. Tab and Enter/Space operate sockets; arrow keys change focus, Escape clears selection.

Hints and replay

Hint blinks a movable plug, then its target on the next OK. A hint may first return an earlier move to recover a safe solving sequence; tapping the hinted target follows that recorded route. Undo retraces the actual movement and counts as a move. Replay preserves rope layers and shows your own accepted moves, with the board always visible.

Settings and saving

Choose a socket arrangement and one of its 50 puzzles. The original circle with centre stays available alongside an outer circle, two circles, an oval and a hexagon: 250 puzzles altogether. Switching a played round asks first. Tap Level to cycle within the chosen arrangement. Only preferences are saved; account saves and rankings remain disabled.

About Rope Untangle

Free the ropes from above

Colored ropes cross over and under each other on dark brushed metal. Their order stays fixed when you move. Uncover a rope before moving its plugs, then guide it through a clear path.

Watch what lies above

A visible empty socket is not always reachable. Another rope may cover your cord or block its movement path. Use the spare sockets and clear upper ropes before freeing the ones beneath.

Five arrangements, 250 puzzles

Keep the original circle with centre or choose an outer circle, two concentric circles, an oval or a hexagon. Each arrangement has 50 own puzzles with three to seven ropes. Hints, Undo and a slow replay help you explore.

Rules and controls

Untangle the ropes

Every crossing has a stable top and bottom rope. You can move a rope only when no other rope lies across it from above. Its plugs and the moving cord must also avoid higher ropes throughout the journey. The puzzle ends when all rope pairs are clear of crossings and close contact.

Drag or tap twice

Select an uncovered plug and an empty socket to try a straight move, or drag the plug along your own clear route. A blocked drag stops at the obstacle; releasing there returns the plug without counting a move. Keyboard: Tab chooses a socket, Enter or Space selects and places.

Use spare sockets

Choose Hint and press OK: the first press marks a movable plug, the next marks its destination. A recovery hint can retrace an earlier route before continuing the checked solution. Undo and Replay follow actual accepted paths with unchanged over-and-under order.

Levels, display and sound

Choose one of five socket arrangements and a level in Settings. Each arrangement contains 50 own puzzles. A change asks before replacing a played attempt. The Level statistic and Next keep the arrangement and wrap from 50 to 1.

  • Level: 1–50 per arrangement, with three to seven ropes.
  • Socket arrangement: original circle with centre, outer circle, two circles, oval with centre, hexagon.
